In 2015, we decided to drop the pieces of paper and try to create a shape that produce a pre-defined gray pattern. In this case: an eye. The sculpting is done by a machine but the design is done by shaping step by step a 3D surface by a series of “try” and “check” thanks to a software written just for that.
Then the surface is machined by CNC:
