We have live 3D printed some examples of photolyxes at Maker Faire Bilbao 2019. It took place in the very center of Bilbao, in the nice building “Alhóndiga”. People stopped to ask what is this stuff! Some thought it was a lithophane. We should call it “retrophane” ?
21th of October 2019, in Paris, took place the “Material Appearance Workshop” , at the auditorium of the Pierre et Marie Curie Campus, Sorbonne University. We presented the concept of “photolyx” as “Display of a 2D pattern with an illuminated continuous 3D surface. Light sculpting” — L. Brunel (PhotonLyX Technology , Spain) a also have shown a poster with Mona-Lisa. The poster holds a 3D sculpted photolyx made of foam machined with a CNC mill at FabLab Santander.
A -what we call- “photolyx” is a photograph encoded in a 3D shape. You can retrieve the original photograph by correctly illuminating you shape.
